  • Dr. Mukesh Agarwala Entrepreneur, Scientist, Consultant, Author, and Speaker Dr. Mukesh Agarwala is Managing Director of 3D Product Development, a private Indian firm he founded in 2000. The company provides technical services and strategic consulting in Rapid Prototyping (RP) and rapid tooling. Through his company, Dr. Agarwala has provided services to over 300 organizations in India. For the past 16 years, Dr. Agarwala has focused his education, research, and practice on design, prototyping and materials processing. Over this time, he has authored more than 50 articles, and technical papers and has been awarded 5 patents on Materials and Prototyping. Prior to starting 3DPD in Bangalore, India, Dr. Agarwala completed his Bachelors Degree in 1988 in Materials Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. Subsequently, in 1994 he earned his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Rapid Prototyping Processes and Materials.

  • From 1990 to 2000 he has worked on various RP Processes – FDM, SLS, SLA, and LOM. During this period he developed several advanced materials for these processes and fine-tuned RP Processes for metals, ceramics, and composites. During the same period he established a Six-University Rapid Prototyping Consortium in the State of Ohio in USA to meet aggressive needs of local industry and carry out advanced R&D in RP. He authored several articles in journals and is an inventor on 5 patents related to RP Processes and Materials.In 2000, Dr. Agarwala returned to India and decided to don the hat of an entrepreneur and started 3D Product Development providing latest RP Technology Services.

  • Indian RP industry was at its infancy during the period. To overcome the challenges of bringing RP technology into mainstream Product Development, he mooted the idea of forming a professional body, Rapid Prototyping Society of India. Along with a group 5-10 individuals from industry and academia, he led in formation of RPSI in 2002. He has been served as the Vice-President of RPSI since its inception in 2002. He has acted as an independent consultant to many Indian OEMs in implementing RP strategies. In the past 6 years, Dr. Agarwala has been given the opportunity to speak to thousands of engineers, scientists, and industry professionals all over India and has visited over 200 organizations to educate on RP Technologies.Dr. Agarwala has conducted several Seminars and Workshops as Invited Speaker. From 1990 – 1994, Dr. Agarwala was a regular presenter, often making multiple presentations, at the Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium in Austin, Texas, at the SME RP Meeting in Detroit, and at the International Conference on RP in Dayton, Ohio. Subsequently, he has made presentations at US Defense Establishments on new developments in RP Materials and to US Defense Agencies. He has been an Invited Speaker in countries like US, Canada, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan. He has conducted several industry focused Workshops and Seminars all over India. In 2000, he was Invited to Speak at the International Conference on RP in Tokyo, Japan, organized by Japanese Society of Die and Mold Technology. In the same year, he single handedly conducted a marathon 4 hour Invited Workshop in Singapore at the MTA 2000 and Manufacturing Asia 2000. In the last 6 years, in India, he has been an Invited Speaker at various industry forums such as Confederation of Indian Industries and as an expert speaker by major global companies.
