Metal Casting

3DPD strives and ensures you get high-quality metal castings at the right time and at the right cost. By supplying high-quality castings with close dimensional tolerances.

we support industry verticals like Automotive, Aerospace, White goods and Electronics.

The heart of the Metal Casting business is the Schultheiss Rapid Metal Investment casting machine. This state-of-the-art machine is capable of producing castings of the highest quality.

The support machines like Heat treatment Furnaces, Vacuum Investment Powder Mixer, High Pressure Water Jet and Sandblasters along with experienced and highly skilled workforce make 3DPD’s facility the best in the country in prototyping of Metal Castings. 3DPD also caters to Sand Casting using No-Bake technology, that gives customers options to get castings at the right price point.

Vacuum Investment Casting

Metal parts that are produced by the vacuum investment casting method are different from a typical Investment Castings due to the technique itself. The vacuum draws the molten metal into the mold, the casting is solidified in an oven and the mold is removed in order to release the final product. The process allows for parts to be cast with thin walls and intricate features.

At 3DPD, this process is used for the widely used Aluminium alloys materials. After the casting process, precision machining is performed to machine the required mating surfaces with all the machining operations.

Vacuum Investment Casting- 3DPD

Vacuum Investment Casting starts with making a Master Pattern by 3D Printing in either SLA (with ABS resin) or SLS (PrimeCast powder) which is further used to design a Wax Pattern Assembly with a proper gating system to mimic the desired final product shape to achieve maximum smoothness and to avoid any porosity issues in the raw casting. A supreme quality investment powder mixture is used to make the mold around that Wax Pattern. The next stage is the burn-out & heat treatment cycle in which the cavity is created in the mold by melting the wax out with the help of a 72-hour long preparation to be able to pour the molten metal under vacuum which gives us the castings after the quenching process and removing the mold surrounding the metal casting.

Material – Aluminium Alloy LM 24 & LM 25

Shell Investment Casting

It is also called as Shelling, and is one of the near net shape casting technologies. The process is based on expendable wax patterns for producing joint-less molds that are required for near net shape castings.

In the shell investment casting, the process starts similar to as of Vacuum Investment Casting except the Wax Patterns undergo a process also called Shelling in which, a ceramic shell gets built around the Wax Pattern assembly through repeated dipping of the pattern into a refractory slurry & ceramic sand. After getting the required thickness of the cross section, the assembly is de-waxed under the similar burn-out & heat treatment cycle to harden the shell. The shell obtained is further immersed in a refractory coating and the metal is poured into it which gives us the castings after cooling and removing the shell surrounding the metal casting.
